SEO company and web design in Pelham, NH
I run LocalWeb Pro from Pelham. That makes this the one page on this site I didn’t have to go and research — and the one where I’ll tell you something the other town pages don’t. If your business is based here, “Pelham” is almost certainly the wrong word to be chasing.
Almost nobody is searching for a Pelham business
Pelham had 14,222 people at the last census. That is a pleasant number to live among and a difficult number to build a business on. Fourteen thousand residents do not generate enough monthly searches for any single trade to live off, and no amount of optimisation changes the size of the town.
I can be specific about this, because I measure it on my own site. Here is what twelve months of my search data looks like broken out by town — how many times a page of mine was shown to somebody searching with that town’s name in the query:
My own Google Search Console figures, twelve months to October 2026. They describe my site rather than the whole market — but the shape of it is the point, and the shape does not change from one trade to the next.
A page built to win “Pelham” wins something worth nothing. The work is to be found by the people fifteen minutes away who are actually typing.
The roads out of town all point at Massachusetts
Our southern town line is the state line. Cross it and you are in Dracut, and Lowell sits immediately behind Dracut. Route 38 — Bridge Street, which is as close as we get to a commercial centre — runs straight down into Massachusetts. Mammoth Road exists as part of an old route between Lowell and the middle of New Hampshire. Lawrence is nine miles east. Nashua is nine miles west.
So a Pelham business sitting still in its own driveway already has more potential customers in Massachusetts than in New Hampshire. The practical consequence is a slightly awkward one: the website has to rank in Massachusetts towns while the business itself is registered, addressed and taxed in New Hampshire. That is a solvable problem, but it is not the default. Left alone, Google will read a Pelham address, decide you are a Pelham business, and show you to the fourteen thousand people who were never going to be enough.
Crossing the line changes what has to be on your site
New Hampshire has no statewide licence for general contractors. Electricians, plumbers and gas fitters are licensed through the OPLC, and everyone else operates without one. There is nothing to display, which is why so many New Hampshire trade websites display nothing.
Massachusetts is not like that. Work on an existing owner-occupied home of one to four units requires Home Improvement Contractor registration, and the registration number is required to appear on your advertising. A website is advertising. Larger structural work needs a Construction Supervisor Licence on top, which is a separate thing with separate requirements.
Being based in New Hampshire does not exempt you. The rule follows the address of the job, not the address of your truck. Every Pelham trade that takes work in Dracut, Lowell or Methuen is inside it.
It is also quietly good for you. A number displayed plainly on the page is the cheapest trust signal available, and most of your competition has not bothered.
No storefront, no problem — if the listing is set up right
Pelham has no commercial strip to speak of. Almost every trade here runs out of a house and a truck, which means almost every Pelham business hits the same wall on Google: the address is your home, and you would rather not publish it.
You do not have to. A Google Business Profile can hide the street address entirely and advertise service areas instead, listed town by town. Mine is set up that way, at an address in this town, so I am not describing something theoretical. The detail that catches people is consistency — if the address is hidden on Google it cannot be sitting in your website footer, on your Facebook page or on an old directory listing. Google reads all of those and treats the contradiction as a reason to trust none of them.
Where I work from here
Working from Pelham means the state line stops being a boundary and starts being something I drive over twice a day. New Hampshire first:
- Pelham
- Windham
- Hudson
- Salem
- Nashua
- Londonderry
- Derry
- Litchfield
And south, which for most Pelham businesses is where the money is:
- Dracut
- Lowell
- Methuen
- Lawrence
- Tewksbury
- Andover
- North Andover
- Haverhill
- Billerica
- Chelmsford
None of it depends on proximity. Everything is handled remotely, so a business in Keene or on the Seacoast gets exactly the same service. Being up the road from you just means I already know which towns are worth targeting and which ones aren’t.

Questions
Should Pelham appear on my website at all, then?
Yes, but as your base rather than your target. Google wants to know where you are, customers like knowing you are nearby, and it costs you nothing. What changes is the weight: Pelham gets a mention and an accurate listing, while the pages and the effort go at Lowell, Methuen, Salem and Nashua.
Do I need a Massachusetts address to rank in Lowell or Methuen?
No, and renting a mailbox to fake one is a fast route to a suspended listing. What you need is a page about the work you do in that town, a service area that includes it, and enough reviews mentioning it. Distance is one of three things Google weighs, not the only one — and from here the distance is small enough not to be the problem.
My business runs out of my house. Does hiding the address hurt me?
Not on its own. Hiding it is the documented, approved setup for a business that travels to its customers, and plenty of well-ranking trades do it. What does hurt is a half-done job — address hidden on Google but still printed in the website footer, or still live on a directory listing from six years ago. Clean that up and the hidden address is a non-issue.
There are only so many trades in Pelham. Will you work with more than one of us?
Not two of you competing for the same work in the same towns — I would be bidding against myself and one of you would be paying me to lose. One per trade per patch. Different trades are no conflict at all, and honestly tend to help each other, since you end up referring work back and forth.
I already come up when I search my own name here. Isn’t that enough?
Searching for yourself from your own house in Pelham is the friendliest possible test — Google knows where you are and what you have clicked before, and it hands you the answer you were hoping for. The test that means something is whether a stranger in Lowell who has never heard of you finds you. That is a different search, and it is usually a different answer.
